We were contacted by the “Friends of the Pier” to install donor plaques on the White Rock Pier. Laser etched and installed in a deep inlay in the planks of the pier. In December 2018, many windstorms had been occurring throughout British Columbia. During one of these storms, a part of the pier was blown away by a large boat. It was originally built in 1914. Also, to help in rebuilding Canada’s longest, the 470-meter-long pier in White Rock, British Columbia, the Friends of the Pier is accepting donations.
The process for making the donor plaques is quite interesting. First, we receive the email with the names to be engraved. Then, we laser etch the names onto an 8″ x 2″ aluminum plaque. After this, we head down to the pier and begin the inlaying process. With a router and a template made especially for this job, we inlay a depth, less than 1/8″, for the plaque to sit in. We then place the plaque into the inlayed section and secure it with two steel screws. After nine months, the pier has reopened for the public. Since then, over 230 donor plaques have been installed at the White Rock Pier. Many people greeted us while we were installing the donor plaques into the planks. They were quite happy to see their landmark reopened. For $1000 you can have a metal name plaque installed on the pier plank along with a certificate.
